Alumni Reunion Weekend is a time for OU alumni to reconnect with old classmates and friends, to revisit old memories and to make new ones.
This year’s Alumni Reunion Weekend features a Golden Reunion Celebration as alumni from the class of 1974 and earlier are invited to come together at the “home” of OU, Meadow Brook Hall.
In addition, the OU Alumni Association Black Alumni Chapter will celebrate 50 years of connections and friendships during its 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Longtime OU employee and Black Alumni Chapter leader Dr. Stephanie Lee, CAS ’93 and SEHS ’17 and ’19, calls the event “a wonderful milestone” that will bring together Golden Grizzlies and Pioneers.
“We are excited to celebrate the legacy of the 1974 alums,” said Dr. Lee, administrative associate in the Office of the Provost. “They paved the way for me and others who graduated from OU. And for that we are forever grateful to them and the university for creating a Black Alumni Chapter. Some are Pioneers and some are Golden Grizzlies, but we are one big, happy family.”
The celebration includes dinner, drinks and entertainment, with special emcee WDIV Local 4 Crime and Safety Expert Darnell Blackburn. Darnell is the father of Daryl Blackburn, an OU alumnus and beloved campus leader who worked in OU’s Division of Student Affairs and Diversity until his passing in June 2023.
Those who resided on campus won’t want to miss this year’s University Housing Reunion, where they can catch up with old roommates, reminisce about residence hall life and see how campus has changed over the years. Tours are included, along with a Midnight Breakfast-themed brunch.
“Midnight Breakfast is University Housing’s longest-running tradition, so we’re doing a form of that with brunch,” said Amy Ring Cebelak, CAS ’11, assistant director of residence life. “There will be some really cool retro housing T-shirts that all the participants receive, as well as tours where folks can visit some of the buildings they may have lived in and also see some of our newer facilities.”
Former OU Housing Directors James Zentmeyer and Eleanor Reynolds will speak at the Midnight Breakfast Brunch and surprise “OU celebrities” will serve the food. Attendees are encouraged to bring their children, as the event will include kid-friendly activities as well.
The weekend will finish off with the All Alumni Reunion: Games, Grooves and Golden Grizzlies, an evening filled with games, music, prizes and more!
